Omar Matuk-Villazón, MD, MBA, serves as the Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Clinical Services at Suvida Healthcare. In his dual clinical and operational role, he plays a key part in leading the organization’s mission to provide culturally competent, comprehensive care to Hispanic and Latino Medicare-eligible older adults.

As a member of Suvida’s founding team, Dr. Matuk-Villazon’s unique clinical and operational perspective has been essential in formulating Suvida’s operational, strategic, and financial components, ensuring that clinical quality, patient-centered care, and sustainable growth are integrated into every aspect of the organization.

Dr. Matuk’s 20 years of experience and vision for a provider-led, patient-focused, and culturally responsive care model has enabled Suvida to expand its reach across underserved populations while continually advancing innovation, quality, and compassionate growth.

Suvida’s strong, provider-led culture rooted in community needs and respect for cultural values is a result of Dr. Matuk-Villazon’s efforts to assemble a high-performing clinical team while providing long-term strategic direction so that Suvida’s decisions reflect both patient-centered care and organizational sustainability.

Prior to helping found Suvida, Dr. Matuk was a founding member of the University of Houston College of Medicine, where he served as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Chief Medical Officer. There, he led strategic initiatives in clinical operations, pediatric clerkship, and innovative care models, establishing a foundation for training medical students in holistic, community-focused care. His work at the University of Houston helped inspire Suvida’s mission, as he created opportunities for students to practice in real-world, full-risk settings that mirror the comprehensive, value-based care model he champions today.

Beyond his clinical leadership, Dr. Matuk has driven pivotal operational initiatives at Suvida, optimizing workflows, improving processes, and ensuring services are well-integrated across departments. His commitment to creating scalable, value-based care models has enabled Suvida to expand into new markets, enhancing both efficiency and quality. He directs the organization’s quality, utilization, and documentation efforts, positioning Suvida to achieve high Medicare practice standards. Through strategic collaborations, he drives alignment and innovation across teams, building Suvida’s capacity to respond to emerging healthcare needs. As a central member of the executive team, Dr. Matuk is committed to mentoring future leaders, cultivating a mission-driven workforce that upholds Suvida’s core values and goals.

Dr. Matuk’s commitment to whole-person care is evident in his mentorship as he actively cultivates the next generation of leaders within Suvida’s multidisciplinary provider workforce. His collaborative, people-centered leadership style has fostered a strong, values-based organizational culture, ensuring that Suvida’s teams are aligned with the mission and consistently focused on excellence.

Dr. Matuk holds a medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and a specialization in Homeopathy and Integrative Medicine from Homeopatía de México. He completed his pediatric medical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and holds an MBA from Rice University. He is a practicing primary care physician and currently lectures at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business, where he teaches healthcare management, full-risk models, and entrepreneurship. For his contributions to healthcare strategy, physician leadership, clinical research, and value-based care, he has been recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Mexican National Academy of Medicine.

His commitment to serving his community extends beyond his work at Suvida, as he regularly travels to Mexico City to provide primary care and advocates for healthcare equity and access as part of the National Hispanic Medical Association.

Dr. Matuk calls Houston and Mexico City home. Outside of work, he enjoys swimming and cherishes family time with his wife and three children.
